MTV: ”Video Premiere: Adam Lambert, ‘If I Had You”

The first half-minute of Adam Lambert’s new ”If I Had You Video,” which premiered today on Posted.vh1.com, feels like it takes place in the magical Twilight forest of Forks. But this ain’t no vampires-and-humans baseball game. It’s Adam Lambert’s anything-goes Burning Man-inspired bacchanalia, which looks like it picks up where ”For Your Entertainment” left off.

And the message is pretty clear (if not a tad bit idealistic): Humanity can, in fact, put their differences aside and just dance. Perhaps that’s the way to solve all of our global conflicts. Who’s to say Lambert’s not right? Like all great pop stars, he’s not afraid to dream.

By this point you’ve either permanently dismissed Adam Lambert or purchased a ticket to ride his Swarovski studded pop train. If you belong to the first camp, mosey along. If you’re of the latter mindset, get excited because his just released music video for ”If I Had You” is everything we’ve come to expect from Glambert — crazy makeup, crazier outfits and a shoot we regret not being a part of.

Bringing to life a woodsy rave any promoter would have made bank off of, Adam continues to secure his moniker as the artist whose videos transform the expression ”style over substance” into a positive description.

Stand up straight on those silver platform heels and doff your own top hat to yourself, Glambert—between the flashy colors, the playful dancing and the actual smiling, this is what a feel-good summertime music video should look like.

The Bryan Barber-directed video was inspired by Lambert’s self-proclaimed ”psychedelic” experience at the Burning Man festival, which he’s previously referred to as the, er, trip that made him want to try out for ”American Idol.” Good thing he did, or else we wouldn’t have glammed-out videos like this one to look forward to every few months.
